Happy Wednesday everybody!! Did you know that ketchup was sold as medicine in the 1830s? Will these random facts become a blog tradition? Who knows!
Prepositions and conjunctions are generally throw away words in today’s English. However, this causes us to miss out on really important meanings and applications when we read our Bibles. The keyword from this week was “with”. If discipleship could only be defined by two words, it would be “with Jesus”. Jesus appointed the 12 so that they could be with him, so that they could be sent, and that they may cast out demons. Whoa. Let’s talk about that, but even more, let’s be challenged by it and become better disciples and disciplers.
Woo, Table Talk blog! Josh here. Did you know that Rhode Island is the smallest state by area in the US, yet it has the longest official name??? I can’t really say there’s anything to me sharing that, other than I love random facts.
This week’s discussion took us through the sermon, Stretch Out Your Hand. Really, it’s a detailed observation of how Jesus interacts with sinners. He heals sin, he loves, he resets our expectations, and challenges us to shine His light in our dark places by stretching out our hands. I’ve got some stretching to do. Do you?
Oh! Here's the link to the book pastor nathan mentioned in this week's episode. It's called "Life and HOliness" by Thomas Merton. Click on the picture to head over to amazon. Pastor nathan talked about the chapter in this book titled "plaster saints", a great read!
Congratulations to pastor jade metz. She won a book on this weeks podcast in a random (seemed rigged) drawing. As you can see, pastor nathan and josh are not thrilled. the entire competition was intended to bring light to the fact that jade stole nathan's book. somehow, against all that makes sense in the world, she won another book! just a warning, in the early minutes of this weeks episode, there is some loud cheering and chaos...cover your ears.
we also congratulate jason hays for being the first to respond with the password! if you want to check out a copy of this book, here it is on amazon.
